History of Geodesic Tents
Let’s take a step back in time to when the first dome tent was created by American engineer and architect Richard Buckminster Fuller in the late 1940s. The architect, called “Bucky”, produced a sphere-like structure with a structural skeleton containing minimal materials, balanced thanks to its structure consisting of triangular networks.
Although Bucky was a geodesic dome pioneer, he wasn’t actually the first to implement it. The first geodesic dome was designed after World War I by a man named Walther Bauersfeld, chief engineer of the Carl Zeiss academy of optics, for a planetarium to house his own planetarium project. The planetarium was built in Germany, and a larger dome was later opened to the public in 1926, dubbed the “Wonder of Jenna.”
